Kennel Duties
The surgical suite in a veterinary hospital is a specialized environment where surgical procedures are performed on animals. This room is designed to be a sterile and controlled area to prevent infections and complications during and after surgeries. Proper protocols include thorough cleaning and disinfection of the room and surgical instruments, wearing sterile gowns, gloves, and masks by all personnel, and using sterilized drapes and equipment. Following strict guidelines is crucial because it minimizes the risk of introducing pathogens into the surgical site, ensuring the safety and well-being of the animal patients. Maintaining sterility helps in preventing postoperative infections, promoting faster recovery, and improving overall surgical outcomes.
Patient Monitoring
These special monitoring machines monitor the pet’s heart rate, breathing, and how much oxygen is in their blood.
– The ECG machine: looks at the heart’s electrical activity.
– The Pulse Oximeter: checks how much oxygen is in the pet’s blood,
– The Capnograph: measures how well they’re breathing out carbon dioxide.
A veterinary technician helps the doctor by using these tools and taking the pet’s temperature, heart rate, and respiratory rate (TPR) every 5 minutes. They watch these numbers to make sure the pet stays safe and comfortable during surgery.
Anesthesia Machine
An anesthesia machine is a special device used in veterinary hospitals to help animals stay asleep and not feel any pain during surgery. It works by holding special drugs called sedatives, like isoflurane, and mixing them with oxygen. When the animal breathes in this mixture, it keeps them anesthetized, which means they are in a deep sleep and won’t feel anything. Veterinary technicians follow proper protocols to make sure the machine is set up correctly and safely prior to all surgeries.
Surgical Suite
The Surgical Suite is a special room where the Dr performs surgery on animals. It’s imperative that this room be stocked at all times, cleaned properly and disinfected every day before and after the Dr performs surgery.
The doctor and the nurses are sure to wash their hands, wear clean clothes, gloves, and masks to make sure no dirt or germs get into the room. They also use tools that are cleaned and disinfected after every use. This way, every animal that comes into the Surgical Suite has the best chance of having a successful surgery and prevent any potential infections.
Surgical Prep Area
A surgical prep table is a special table used in a veterinary hospital to get a pet ready for surgery. It’s a clean and organized place where the veterinary team can prepare everything they need to keep the surgery safe and clean. Before surgery, the team uses different materials like guaze and surgical scrub to make sure the area where the pet will be operated on is very clean.
