Pets Teeth 101!

Understanding Dental and Teeth

A dog’s molar teeth are used for chewing and grinding up food, just like how we use our back teeth to chew our food into small pieces.

A dog’s pre-molars are used for chewing and tearing food into smaller pieces so they can eat it more easily.

A dog’s canine teeth are sharp and pointy, helping them grab, hold, and tear food, like meat, into smaller bites.

Incisors are the small, sharp teeth at the front of a dog’s mouth used for nibbling, picking things up, and grooming their fur.

Understanding Oral Care and Teeth

Just like people, pets need to take care of their teeth to stay healthy. Both humans and pets can get cavities, gum disease, and bad breath if they don’t keep their mouths clean. For dogs and cats, healthy teeth help them eat, play, and feel their best. If their teeth aren’t cared for, it can cause pain and even make them sick. A good way to help your pet is by brushing their teeth with pet-safe toothpaste or giving them special dental treats that clean their teeth while they chew. Starting a tooth-cleaning routine early makes it easier for your pet to get used to it!
